Imagine Justice Antonin Scalia being replaced by a left-wing extremist, Liberal. I know that’s a scary thought, but with most of our focus being on the selection of the Republican Presidential Nominee, attention is being diverted from other important elections. Specifically, the United States Senate is hanging in the balance and thus the United States Supreme Court.
Polling right now is showing that the Republicans have a good chance of losing the Senate to the Democrats, regardless of who wins the Presidency. The ramifications go far beyond control of the Senate.
So far, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been able to prevent Confirmation hearings on Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee from going forward. A few Republicans have met with Merrick Garland but have not wavered on the ‘no hearings’ stance. We all know that Obama is not sincere by his nomination of Garland, he is just a distraction. Obama is an ideologue and clearly, he does not want a moderate. Unfortunately, the Senate can only block as far as January if Republicans lose the control in November.
If the Democrats win, they would take control of the Senate on January 3rd and Barrack Obama remains President until January 20th. This would give the Democrats 17 days, an eternity, to fast-track a nominee so far Left, that person would make Justice Kagin seem Conservative. 17 days to shift the Supreme Court to the Liberals for a generation.
It seems the fate of our country quite literally lies in the hands of Republican voters. Presidential politics is a major driver and supporters of both Trump and Cruz are threatening to stay home if the other wins. This mentality carries down the ticket as well, putting several Senate candidates at risk.
The Democrats only need a few seats to win back control. In my own state of Wisconsin, first term Senator Ron Johnson is being challenged by Russ Feingold, the former Senator Johnson beat six years ago. There are many conservatives that are refusing to support Johnson because of his support of Loretta Lynch, among other things. It is rare that I do not hear the Johnson name and RINO in the same sentence which concerns me. Recent polls show the race tightening, but Johnson is still trailing well outside the margin of error. Does this mentality justify putting Russ Feingold back in the Senate? Really?
While I understand the anger and frustration with the establishment, there is way too much at stake. This is not the year to make a statement because the damage the Democrats with Obama have done is already going take years to fix, we cannot allow the damage to continue even longer by allowing such a significant impact on the US Supreme Court.
You have to ask yourself, what are you doing to prevent Obama from having 17 days of total power and to ensure the end of the Obama folly?
In a year where the Democrat Party is imploding, Republicans have the opportunity, and the responsibility, to reclaim the narrative and change course. Instead, we are squandering this opportunity by infighting and hurt feelings. At what cost? Keeping the Senate prevents a Liberal extremist from replacing Scalia, among other things. Search your souls, this may even be more important than the Presidential election, not to diminish the importance of that.
It’s time to make an impact, if you do not work to keep Republican control of the US Senate, those mere 17 days can squander our very future.
