It’s no surprise, now that Wisconsin has a surplus the Democrats and State Representative Robyn Vining cannot wait to spend it.
The legislative Republicans came up with a tax cut plan to give part of the surplus back to the people, reduce personal property taxes on small businesses, and pay down state debt with the rest. The nonpartisan Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy at UW-Madison said he GOP plan would benefit nearly 2 million tax filers in Wisconsin. More importantly, CROWE says “low-to-middle income taxpayers would benefit the most” from the tax cut. Read the full CROWE report HERE
In response, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers joined Robyn Vining and Milwaukee County Executive candidate State Senator Chris Larson in Wauwatosa and vetoed the $400 million GOP tax cut plan.
Vining and Larson were all too eager to be on hand to support and celebrate the blocking of returning money to the people. In fact, Vining proudly stood by the podium with Evers. But this should come as no surprise since both Vining and Larson also voted against the GOP middle income tax cut last February that was also vetoed by Governor Evers and the middle income GOP tax cut that was included in the state budget that was signed by Evers. That’s right, Vining and Larson have voted against middle class tax cuts three times in the past year.
I’ve known Vining for quite some time now, our kids go to school together. She seems nice enough and we’ve had some great conversations. Plus she always says hello to me, even though we are political opposites. That being said, likeing someone as a person must be tempered with common sense.
So, before you squishy social justice warriors go after me for daring to challenge her political choices, remember, she campaigned for the job as a moderate, pro-business Democrat. When she won, I called her attention to the fact that she and Evers barely won and therefore did not have a mandate. I recommended she govern accordingly.
It has become quite clear that Vining did not get the message and is showing she’s more beholden to her Democrat party bosses and the teacher’s union than she is to her constituents in the 14th Assembly District, the District that encompasses most of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. I guarantee she did not campaign on sticking it to the taxpayer by blocking tax cuts that merely reimburse for taking too much.
It’s very telling that joining Vining and Evers, were some people from SOS Wauwatosa, the loudly ‘non-partisan’, yet hyper-partisan extreme left wing ‘concerned parents’ group. All SOS does is beg for more money for schools, since they have no real ideas on how to improve education.
It’s ironic that the veto happened at Wauwatosa’s Lincoln Elementary School, one of the schools currently under construction and funded by the recent mind boggling $125 Million referendum (which will likely end up well over $300 Million in real dollars).
Vining and her teachers union bosses were loud supporters of the Referendum and it likely helped Vining to squeak into the Assembly back in 2018.
Since that disaster of a referendum, Wauwatosa has seen property taxes soar. The increases basically erased all property tax cuts since 2011, leaving Wauwatosa in dire need of tax relief. But tax relief is obviously not in Vining’s DNA.
Like any true blue, dyed in the wool Liberal, seeing a surplus of your money is like a tiger with a slab of beef. Vining cannot control her drooling over how to spend it. She, like the rest of the Democrats want to spend the state’s surplus on, already bloated, public K-12 education funding.
Once again appeasing her teachers union bosses. But I digress.
The problem is, ever since the public education funding cuts during the Act 10 chaos of 2011, education spending has inched back up well beyond pre-Scott Walker levels. This includes the first time ever line-item veto increase, forced on us by Evers in his first budget.
We are talking well over $1 Billion.
And what have we gotten for our hard earned tax dollars? Less than 50% of the money actually goes into the classroom, most of it goes to bloated six-figure administration salaries in usless positions like ‘diversity’ coordinators and the like.
For decades, spending on public schools has gone up at least tenfold, yet there are 350,000 less kids.
On top of that, we get nothing but falling test scores and increased left-wing ideological indoctrination. Because of that, less than 50% of students even test high enough on the SAT to qualify for college. Sure, they will learn all about being compliant ‘woke’ kids and knowing the difference between straight sex and gay sex, but they won’t be able to read.

This is what you get when you hand out Billions with zero accountability. In spite of all this, the Democrats want MORE money for the schools. They constantly scream that they will not stop until schools are ‘fully funded’. What on Earth does that mean? It’s nothing but rhetorical nonsense. If a school is open and is paying it’s costs, it is by definition, fully funded.
Simply put, Robyn Vining does not want you to have your own money back so she can add to the bloat of the public schools with zero accountability. All this to appease her teachers union bosses and to do Evers’ bidding.
Vining campaigned on being someone new in Madison, she even said ‘love wins’ when she won. Apparently, she doesn’t ‘love’ her constituents enough to give them their money back. The people of the 14th Assembly District have a big decision to make this year.
Robyn Vining only won in 2018 by about 120 votes, clearly not a mandate, a message that Vining does not understand. November is coming.
