Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, so the party is now refocused on the Democrats, right?
Well, not so fast.
House Speaker Paul Ryan wants to flex his political muscles and refuses to support Trump, at least until he is ‘satisfied.’
Ryan said that he was not ready to support Trump. He said that Trump is inheriting the party of Lincoln and Reagan.
The last time I checked, Trump did not inherit the nomination, he won it on the field of battle against 16 other competitors. And he did so with historic voter turnout and a gigantic anti-Trump push by Ryan’s own establishment.
This week Ryan and Trump held their own private 45 minute Republican Party ‘summit’ in an effort to sort out their differences. In other words, Ryan wanted to spell out his ‘demands’ on Trump.
The problem is, Ryan did not win the nomination, nor is he one to who should question someone’s ‘Conservative Credentials.’ Omnibus anyone? Who made him the decider of Republican Conservativism anyway?
As the highest ranking elected official and chairman of the Convention, Ryan should be working to unify the party behind the presumptive nominee, not helping Hillary Clinton my continuing to fight Trump.
This rhetoric is nothing but sucking up to the establishment hierarchy by Ryan and is not only a slap in the face to Millions of Trump supporters but also to the millions of anti-establishment Cruz supporters.
Ryan and Reince Priebus look like they are playing ‘good cop, bad cop’ with Donald Trump. Priebus is being all magnanimous in interviews while Ryan is acting like the jilted prom date. The problem is, we can see right through their farce. Clearly they still getting over the shock that one of ‘their own’ did not win, that includes Ryan by the way.
Donald Trump is in this position because he refused to capitulate to establishment demands. Why should he start now? No, I am not saying he should be demanding, but he has the upper hand and should use it.
The anti-Establishment wave won this time around, it’s time for Ryan and company to embrace the wave. Like the old saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
There is a certain sense of irony in the fact that the first ever episode of Trump’s The Apprentice required the contestants to sell lemonade. Time for Ryan to start squeezing or Trump may be forced to say You’re Fired.
